Chapter One
Period from April 15-th 1995 to July 28-th 2004: Working as Dental Technician in Macedonia

I started working as a Dental Technician on the 15-th of April 1995 at my uncle`s Dental office and laboratory "Duki Lek"

After graduating from Medical School of Dental Technology in June 1992 in Skopje, I continued my studies at the University of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia. I was in the middle of my Dentistry studies at the University when one day, my uncle, Dr. Dusan Velkoski desperately needed a Dental Technician to fabricate three unit golden bridge. So, he called me and asked me if I can do the work. I still remember the amount of fear and sweat I had while working on that bridge !! My first bridge - and made of gold !! When I finished with that bridge my Uncle was very satisfied . He offered me to be his Dental technician. I said Yes....and the history began to be written ....

Before I start telling my story about being Dental Technician, I would like to draw a line and separate two types of Dental Technicians in the dental industry:

1. New style "Chain system" Dental Technicians

There are technicians who work in the "Chain system" of making dentures crowns and bridges; it means that several technicians are in the process of making one denture, crown or a bridge, so each of them does only one stage of the process. So, one of them is creating denture or crown and bridge in wax, the other is working on changing wax into alloy or investment and processing, someone else is trimming and polishing the denture, and the last one is working with the composite or ceramic materials, giving the final shape of the crowns and bridges....they all make a chain that ends with finished denture, crown or bridge.

2.Old fashioned "One man show" Dental Technicians

On the other side there are I would say, "old fashioned" dental technicians who are fabricating dentures, crowns, bridges and other appliances in the principles of " One man doing all the stages of the appliance's fabrication, from pouring the model to polishing" or long story short: "One man show".  I was one of them for years. All the dentures, crowns and bridges that I have fabricated were made from the start till the end solely by myself .

Also, I would also like to mention that there are not many Technicians who work in both main fields of Dental technology: Fixed and Removable Prosthetics. It is a high honor and a prestige for every Dental Technician to be able to work and fabricate fixed prosthetses as well as removable ones. I am proud to say that I am one of them.

Analysis of my Dental Tech work in Macedonia
made on a yearly basis and it can be observed through four parameters:
-number of patients

-number of crowns or units in a bridge
-number of complete and partial acrylic dentures
-number of cast partial dentures

Because my first day of work was on 15-th of April , this date is taken as the start point of the first yearly session of `95 . All other yearly sessions are from the first of January till the 31-th of December. The last yearly session is from January 01-th to July 01-th 2004.

One of my prides and satisfactions is number of crowns

My Personal records

The working policy at the"Duki-Lek"was that every task in the laboratory was to be completed in 3 or 4 days. A crazy chase with time was natural thing in my laboratory. I achieved some great professional records that I would like to share because I`m very proud of them. The quality of dentures and crowns are incontestable .

August 1995 - For One month I have fabricated : 113 crowns or units of a bridge, 5 complete dentures & 4 cast partial dentures, all from scrach to finish.

March 1999 - For 3 days I have waxed up 78 full gold units of a bridge.

June 1999 - For one month I have fabricated 122 crowns or units of a bridge, 4 complete dentures & 5 cast patial dentures, all from scrach to finish .

Chapter Two
Period from August 10-th 2004 to December 24-th 2006:
Working as Dental Technician in Canada

On the 28-th of July 2004 I moved to Canada and just a week later I found a Dental Tech job at the denture department at the Accu Plus Dental Laboratories in Mississauga, Ontario. I became a link of the chain system in dental technology. I was in charge of one or few stages in fabrication of a dentures or crowns, mostly finishing dentures, denture repairs, and fabrication of nightguards.
I stayed there untill September 15th 2006 when I had to quit the job and start my full time Dental Hygiene College studies. Those two years of my work in this lab were the toughest in my professional life, involving constant stress during the hours of hard work. I have handled on average 10 dentures per day, so I can confidently say that in my two years of work I was partially involved in fabrication of aproximatelly four and a half thousand dentures.

Afterwards, from September untill December that year I worked part time in the evenings after school as dental Technician in Burlington, Ontario.

The End of an Era
December 24-th, 2006

December 24,2006 was my official last day working as Dental Technician.
Since then I have focused on my career as Dental Hygienist and Dentist. I surely do miss being a Dental Technician.

These Twelve years of hard work would not have been possible without the support of people close to me.
At the end of this page I would like to
express my graditude to :

Our Mighty God and Saint Petka for giving me strength and will to work and have a good health in my life.
I also offer my Greatest gratitude to:
Dr. Dusan Velkoski, DDS - my teacher and mentor,
Dr. Liljana Velkoska, DDS - for giving me genotype for Dentistry,
Ljupco Velkoski - for being with me in my thoughts all the time,
Mila Velkoska - for her unlimited support, and to
Dr. Natali Fidanoski, MD- for love and understanding.
